Dr Tom Gittings


Tom is the invertebrate postdoctoral researcher on the Bioforest project and is based at UCC. Before joining the project, he was Technical Director with RPS Environmental Sciences Ltd. In that position, he was involved in ecological impact assessment, environmental planning, nature conservation management planning and habitat creation/restoration projects throughout Ireland. The subject of his PhD was the community ecology of Aphodius dung beetles (UCC, 1994).

Tom is a Member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and is an accredited River Habitat Surveyor with the UK Environment Agency. Other experience includes studies on the behavioural ecology of the Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura elegans), bird surveying, participation in an ecological expedition to the Lesser Antillean island of St. Vincent and lecturing on soil invertebrates, habitat surveying and ecological assessment.
